Common useCordarone belongs to the antiarrhythmics. It is used to correct abnormal rhythms of the heart, to treat potentially life-threatening types of abnormal heart rhythms (such as persistent ventricular fibrillation/tachycardia). It helps by making the heart beat more regularly and it works by blocking certain electrical signals in the heart that can cause an irregular heartbeat. Dosage and directionYou will receive your first few doses of amiodarone in a hospital setting where your heart can be monitored in case the medication causes serious side effects. The dose is eventually reduced to 200 mg to 400 mg daily as prescribed by your doctor and according to circumstances. ContraindicationsPeople who has very low heart rate, cardiogenic shock, second or third degree AV block (except when used with a pacemaker), hepatitis, thyroid diseas, certain lung abnormalities, an allergy to amiodarone, any ingredients of the product, or iodine should not take Cordarone. If you have certain conditions, you may need a dose adjustment or special tests to safely use this medication. Before taking amiodarone, tell your doctor about diseases you have: asthma or another lung disorder, liver disease, vision problems, high or low blood pressure, a thyroid disorder, an electrolyte imbalance (such as low levels of potassium or magnesium in your blood) or if you have a pacemaker or defibrillator implanted in your chest.
Possible side effectsSerious side effects may include lung or liver problems.
